Lent

Lent is one of my least favorite times of the year, only because I have to give up something. But the worst part is I can’t eat meat on Friday’s, and I LOVE meat. Lent typically began’s on ash Wednesday and goes till Easter. Lent is a Catholic/Christian observance for the death of Jesus Christ. Lent was started so that we can show our love and support for Jesus Christ, and the sacrifices he made for us.

The reason it’s meat and not any other type of food is because typically meat is associated with anytime of gathering. Whether it be a family gathering, or just some random gathering with friends. People typically always would have a source of meat. My family has been actively participating in lent for as long as I can remember. Not only is it a way for me to practice my religion, but it’s also a way for me to feel closer to my religion. But it isn’t always perfect, I do sometimes end up eating meat on Friday’s (only because I forget what day of the week it is). Lent will always be something that i can partake in, and hopefully as I get older I can keep track of the right days of the week.

Thanksgiving Dinner

The Pilgrims are to thank for this wonderful holiday. But during the very first meal in 1621, their primary meal wasn’t turkey, they were eating goose. It’s also interesting to note that most of the foods we have now for our Thanksgiving meals, wouldn’t have been introduced to them yet.

Thanksgiving dinner has always been one of my favorite meals of all time. You have a variety of different foods, for example, Turkey, stuffing, Mashed Potato’s, cranberry’s sauce, fruit salad, macaroni salad and much more. Although most families may celebrate it differently, most have the same concept. My family likes to say grace before we eat. We aren’t a very religious family, but during this holiday we always make sure we do say grace.

For as long as I can remember the female figure has always prepared the food for my family, except for the turkey. That’s usually cooked by my grandfather, but as time as went on he has gotten older, so now my mother makes the turkey every year. Once the meal is finished we all get up and get our own plates, and enjoy the meal together. Thanksgiving is a very modern holiday, everyone goes out and buys their turkey, and whatever else they need at the supermarket. But others will go out and hunt for their own turkey, everyone has their own tradition during Thanksgiving, which i find very interesting.
